Hullo there, I'm huwa. I'm a shit eidolon of the best god. interests include juggling, drinking too much and avoiding discussion about theology. I'm a doer, not a thinker, but mostly what I do is nothing. And I can't seem to keep my soul symbol on for more than five minutes at a time. And my trousers keep falling down. and the faithful never understand what I say because I mumble in a bad accent. And generally it's fairly safe to assume that I have no idea what is going on. but isn't the maelstrom comfy?

Legatus
|
Just a quick hi here
irl the names gerwyn, I'm the player of the now retired weaver priest "Rufas Gustal".
Needless to say i'll be returning to the Faith game in April but in a (completely) different role, as shown below
|
Illithidbix
|
Considering Wilipedia's entry for "Venator".
| Quote: |
Venator can mean:
* a class of Star Destroyer in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
* a genus of spiders in the Lycosidae family.
* a Venator (military rank) - an ancient Roman soldier specialising in hunting food
|
I'm somewhat intrigued by the possible concept behind your character...
Out of curiosity, any reason you decided to retire Rufas and play an Eidolon?
|
Legatus
|
There are quite a few reasons for the change.
The first one is that, frankly, a lot of the weaver characters bug the hell out of me as a player. While everybody is entitled to their own interpretation of the tennets of the gods i was finding far too many people were taking the weaver at face value. I tried for over two years to correct this trend, through preaching, through maneuvering people into possitions that would test their beliefs and try and force them into making a moralistic stance, only to see the attempts ignored and come to nothing. Hell, i even tried assassination as the character was a full believer in reincarnation and thought that such poor weaverites would probably do better the second time around.
Another obsacle i came across was the group i was originaly part of, a weaver society spread through about 7 of the colonies and tradings houses, simply fell appart over a year ago. Instead of being an illuminati like group gathering information and setting house against house it suddenly became me opperating on my own, and a "shadow opperator" has very little he can do without support.
I have to say as well, i was extremely disappointed in the support i got from my own god. Despite having events where i didnt eat through the ammount of work i was doing for my god, despite producing an ic holybook, song book, books of philosophy, despite spreading these amoungst the population so that i'm hearing people quoting my own "wisdom" back at me as their own, Never once in the over two years of playing the character did i get a blessing. indeed, the only response i realy got from god was a duo of eidalons showing up to threaten me when i exposed a threat that was targetting the weaver faith.
At the end of the day, my character was too subtle. I was always acting through proxies, spreading disinformation through gossip and hearsay and as a result i was not noticed.
There are other ooc reasons for retiring the character, but i wont go into those.
As to Legatus. I'm looking forward to him. I have a very firm idea of how i want to play the eidalon, and despite being overweight and not particularly good in combat (far to long training with real weapons to be an effective larp fighter ) i'm hoping that the characterisation and a big shield will see me through.
I dont know if this is the right place to mention this but i've been severely unimpressed by the way some eidolons deliver blessings. THese are important, nay a world shaking momment in characters live to be noticed and rewarded by their god and this is something i'm intending to look into.
Saying that, most of the eidalons i have seen involved in the holywar are not the ones i have seen impart blessings onto mortals, so please people, take it as an observation, not a critisicm.
Also another thing i'm looking at is the way we handle eidolons makeup and it is for this reason that i've just purchased an airbrush and compressor, as well as a few facial appliances. hopefully this will all come togetther in time, although as a novice i can not state that i'll be sufficiently proficient in time for april.

Oh dear gods, yes I agree with that statement.
I designed the secondary character I played at Remembrance (whilst Varas was kinda Out of Action) around the idea of tormenting and insulting all the smug Weaverites I met. I recall you had the misfortune to meet him in the Tavern.
A lot of my friends feel the same way, and we've turned this into a very well developed IC prejudice about the Weaver, arguing that the weaver is obviously the antithesis of the Merchant (by such proofs as W is an upside down M) and how Weaverites insist on being “alternative” all the time so we suggest they go and make supplications in a ditch because it's “Outside the box”.
There have been some very good weaverites out there (particularly riddle and Troubadour in my opinion), but yeah whilst it can be fun talking to the chaotic mass that is the weaverites, it can be frustrating when you're actually trying to get something done.
Blessings... yes they are very hit and miss, frankly the best way of getting them is to get other people to pray for you, and unsubtle supplications stating quite clearly what aid you want are always good as well (this is something Matt P has responded to the Merchant priests when we debated the lack of success with supplications). Being lucky and being in the center of events when the shit hits the fan (and managing to survive) is also good.
Yeah, the blessing delivery has been something where it's been sometimes lacking, unfortunately not everyone has the presence to really make the moment show. I've seen Auriel and Mardocai deliver them with appropriate gravity, others less so impressive (but then Nathan/Mardocai can deliver bread with gravity)
.
Well it seems you're enthusiastic about your Eidolon concept, which is something you definitely need. You might want to try and get in touch with some of the players of the (competent) loyal for any useful pointers and guidance they can give.
(Unless of course you're being very cunning and actually planning on playing a Fallen, in which case get in touch with Will and Theresa )
From what I've seen, make sure you have a very clear idea of what you want to do as your Eidolon and go out there and do it. Self-motivation is a must and playing a successful Eidolon seems to rely up an impetus to cause stuff to happen (tm).
Good luck playing him and I'll probably see you on the field.

Legatus
|
I think my main problem with the weaverites is the apparent complete and utter lack of anything resembling a true philosophy with them. While many can explain their faith through desire>need>solution, i found a remarkably high number that took it no further.
i would wax further on this, but i suspect the main board isnt the place to do this.
On another topic. has anybody got any spare webspace they could host an online copy of the works Rufas came up with? all the stuff is availible IC and has been distributed, plus while i've asked for him to be relegated to secondary character status, it does still leave the door open for me to complete other generic works, like "the Tales of the Shifting Desert" which i've been working on for a few months now

Cheers peeps for roleplaying with me if you did btw, it really settled me in. Although I have been attending Maelstrom for a couple of years I was still really nervous about this character, but I ended up having a great time.

Can i only echo that?
As somebody who suffers from a poor view of their own body i was realy nervous about plying an immortal being. I was dreading all the questions like "why, when you can form your body how you want, did you form it fat?"
While i think the stone makeup effect helped people rationalise the additional stones of weight (hehehe) what realy settled me down was the interaction that took place between us all.
In particular, Arthur, gotta love ya. That little squabble that we had at the teacher supplication was a lovely contrast of philosophies for a character that played nicely against Legatus' lack of philosophising (my spelling sucks).
I love you all and look forward to cackling madly at the foolishness of mortals in the future
