So the time is coming!!Mailfrothing will soon increase with the anticipation of a new year of maily larping.. 9 weeks to go ladies and gentlemen until the time to donn the costume and roleplay until elated..
I know that the fallen will not be patched shall we say and their rules will remain the same.
There will be a rit circle which will help no end for all you undead critters and eidolonic nasties..
So the main point of this post is to start to move our efforts in possibly planning ahead.. So what are u planning to do this event? are you going to speak to the messengers of the gods to arrange some sort of deal?
As you can see im bored let get this forum running a little more.. as we head towards the time this place will become far more used i think
I also need to get in contact with Pa Arteman if anyone knows him tell him i need to chat too him:)
wooot!!!
Oi bacon, come insult me a little it would be much apreciated..

I plan to spend this event running away from as many people as physically possible.
I've successfully fled from Varas on many occasions, though I've yet to savour the cold fear induced by his new shiny edition. I've made an IC career out of beating an expeditious retreat from the vicinity of Mardocai - though I lost some points last event by staying and talking to him, even if it was in the maelstrom. Back in the day, I even beat one or two expeditious retreats from Flail and co, back before the shit hit the fan and people realised I was 'differently loyal'. I've also fled from Brusch, the Wasps, the Arethusa (they count separately from Varas, really), the Samusatha, a trade house or two, and Legion.
The DNF are another great target for wanton fleeing. I beat my most impressive and cowardly retreat from them when they were busy saying goodbye to a certain golem in their own special way. Ahh...nothing quite like calmly slipping away into the darkness while your friend dies to the scream of 'FIRE AND FAITH'. I also managed it again last event, but I don't think I was recognised. Well, at least...by most of them. I think I lost some points at rememberance where I not only didn't run away from them, but actively faced down Heinrich, but I think the previous retreat more than makes up for it.
I've heard great things about the White Lions. Haven't really had the chance to run away from them properly. I managed it on the sly once, but it only half counted because they didn't see me in the dark. I'll have to fully explore this possibility next event. There are plenty of other groups out there I who have yet to sample my cowardice. But it's ok. As one by one they catch a fleeting glimpse of my back as it disappears around a corner/into the trees/is swallowed by the darkness, they will truly understand the full extent of my fear. In time, they will come to know. Oh yes...

errrrm...Well theres not much to say about that really... errrm... yeah ok... eerrm.. yeah... err!!
'ang on!! Did u just say you ran from Legion? OMFG!!! The first bloody time i met him i shot him... that was with Scarab (God have mercy on his soul).
You see i have only run once and that was because Varas had 6 people with him and Vengence decided in his infinate wisdom to stand and fight. (Damn'd demon hunter) I might add i wont be running again
Bacon and i had a stand off once but she was far more interested in telling me to go bug someone else... That was quite funny actually "Bacon where are u?"
Lolz stop running, might be a good look for u ya know???

But running away - possibly cackling in glee, possibly chastising oneself for such abject, pathetic cowardice - is such fun! Of course, I often wait until the last possible moment before beating a hasty retreat (like that time when Varas almost xxxxxx xxxxxx xx xxxx x xxx xxxxxxx xx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxx xxxx xx xxxxxxxx, or that time when mardocai xxxxxxxxx xx xxxx symbol xx xxx xxxxxx xx xxx xxxxxxxx xxxxx, compromised xx xxxxxxxx xxx xxxxxxx xx xx xxxx xxx)

Strangely, I've been doing a lot of running away of late as well, even though I'm on the side you'd traditionally expect to be pursuing rather than pursued.
I don't need the rit circle to come back so it isn't a proper disadvantage, it's just that sometimes I'd rather get some work done than fight the same angry mob every half hour.
With only nine weeks to go, I'm tempted to do a little jogging to get in shape. If you can run fast enough, there's usually only two or three people in a mob fast enough to keep up with you. Then, when only the fast ones remain, you can turn around and run the other way. That'll learn them.

Without wanting to soil my reputation, Varas has actually once run away as far as 10 yards. This was during the excitement of friday night of Shenanigans, and even Varas isn't quite suicidal enough to take on Reaper, Solaris and Aestar singlehandedly with a crappy sword.
It did however lend itself to a perfect opportunity for poor Scourge to misinterpret Varas' combat ability, which led to an amusing incident the next day.
Varas has also backed down from a challenge from a certain aforementioned Golem (although cus the Golem was marshall at the time and that it yet another attempt to get him trapped by the legal system). Later that evening he got perhaps the most dramatic and convincing send off in the entire of maelstrom history...
(Ps T' get some more subtle minions :p )
Some of my other character's however done some epic running away.
At the very first event, my cowardly shipwright character led an awesomely cowardly retreat out of the back of camp when the Areguma Kamakurans (who we where paying a trade visit to) got attacked by a bunch of Malathians.

I remember that! All the Anaguma were running the other way, towards the combat, and you lot pegged it out of the tent so fast that you practically left your rice cakes spinning in the air behind you.
I miss the Anaguma, but I don't miss being one any more. My new role is more fun, and less housework.

Nice to see your new alter-ego is on the go. Why not come to Discourse on the 24th/25th Feb? It'll be one hell of a baptism of fire!

Well, I often sing the praises of the Anaguma, but then they are the most memorable thing about the first year of Maelstrom. (Samurai badgers = Pure Awesome)
Do you know if the player of Anaguma Kanjiro (7' tall badger General) is still kicking around? I get the impression that he might be playing a Fidellian or something.
Unfortunately, as seems to be the general trend in Maelstrom so many of the really cool, kick ass groups.... end up getting there asses kicked and fading away.
The Anaguma, and the Bakers Dozen being the most notable, and the Wasps and the Greystorm Fleet have become a shadow of what they once where.

I'd argue that this is precisely how things are always going to go in a PvP system - you remember the people who stand out, and it's the people who stand out who die for this same reason. Any group that sticks its neck out and dares to piss off other people is rapidly going to become a target for destruction. Antagonistic groups find themselves overwhelmed by everyone else - 'safe' groups can sit back and watch the fireworks. The Wasps are a great example - they were so scary. Everyone was terrified of them. Everyone wanted to RP with them. As soon as an opportunity arose to 'safely' RP with them (i.e. not suicidally charge headlong into their front line), half the system jumped at the chance.
Note that I'm not necessarily implying that 'being safe/sensible' is 'being a bad/boring roleplayer'. Merely that the ones who you remember are the ones who don't always take the easy route.

Ah Muggerwocks vs Lammie Humpers. The eternal Battle.
(I may or maynot be as disparaging about certain types of play as the above statement makes out nor necessarily making a statement about how well they roleplay their characters, Maelstroms rather cool like that)

I would agree, that the daring and bold tend to get wacked, but where is the fun in playing a safe seamstress, all out war bitch for me anyday and hang the conciquences
(or for that matter any type of character that rubs other characters up the wrong way)

Yay! for the upcoming event. I'm very much looking forward to spreading the teachings of my God and consuming as much Oco as possible.
Hopefully I'll make it through this event without doing anything quite as stupid as attacking the Mill-En camp with nothing but a dagger...

Hell, I've done as good as once (well, it didn't help that I was *disarmed* first)
I'd recommend it to anyone! Go on, give it a try...what's the worst that could happen, other than death of course...
