I like this place!

it's very like the maelstrom itself! lots of sitting on your arse and doing nothing, trying to think of something constructive to say. I love the fact that we have our own forum, but as you've said, there may not be enough of us to justify its existence. Does anyone (who might actually let on) know how many active eidolons there are? I can think of maybe six weaverites, a couple of teacherites, no (count 'em, no) smithites, since the unfortunate problems with legion, and one very notable huntress eidolon. Can't think of any merchant eidolons though. The nonaligned have been quite numerous over the years, and the natives have at least four sturdy advocates. And then there's the other lot, and I think there's quite a few of them. Though they can't go out in sunshine or they'll shrivel. and the contact lenses must be a bugger to put in. and blue paint goes everywhere.

its all fun and games though, and I love the idea of a maelstrom party, where we can all gather round and glower at each other over tea and biscuits! count me in.

I do not slit people's throats in the real world, for the hundredth time y'big liar.
I know that the chap in the very heavy armour is a merchant eidolon. Also, there are a couple more huntress eidolons, I'm just the loud obvious distracting one. A few teacher guys, loads of weaver eidolons, maybe a couple of new world eidolons. They have the bad luck that they don't generally have a lot of followers to play with, with the notable exception of Ash.

We've had loads of fallen, but the turnover has been even higher among the fallen than it has among the loyal, where the few loyal left are those with staying power, or those who started playing them quite recently. There are not nearly as many fallen as there used to be, and the few left are solid hardcore masochists who clearly enjoy a challenge Smile

Well I know off two Merchant Eidolons, (with another one who maybe kinda merchant), one’s very big and shinny (although perhaps not obviously a), the other is a Lawyer (unfortunately he's only been able to make one maelstrom since the first year).

The turnover rate for Eidolons is damn high. I'm my little book I have a nice list of around 50 different soul symbols that have been catalogued at one time or another since the first event (most of it’s second hand)
A small number might have been NPC Eidolons (a few have turned up, you can tell by the good kit and airbrushing Wink ), a few are probably fallen in disguise, but I’m fairly sure the rest where loyals, most of whom I haven’t seen around for years. This also doesn’t could the Eidolons who only ever appeared as part of a soul pact. Hense I'd guess they're has maybe been around 60 or so PC Eidolons in the history of Maelstrom, with around 20 or so I can recall being actively played now.

There has always seemed to be a steady decline of the loyals since the early days, possibly due to the fact that if you’re not self-motivated and enthusiastic about playing the role, you’re going to end up rather bored without much to do except half-heartedly performing missions.
There was also a phenomena at the start of Maelstrom, where many people (including a fair few Loyal players) thought it was “bad form” OC to use an Eidolons immortality to persistently attack mortals (whatever the reasons), as it was obviously “unfair”, unfortunately not-dying is one of the few useful abilities a loyal has, aside from that they’re mostly 0 point postmen.
Hence the loyals appeared to do very little and not really know what to do, one of the contributing factors to the somewhat poor reputation loyal eidolons have.
Almost all (bar the noticable exception of Legion) have been casualties to boredom related retirement.

The fallen took a particular hit over the last two events with at least 5 retirements I know off, and two of these where very old and prominent ones (including alas the big blue beast himself), as T’ (Aestar’s Physrep) can probably elucidate on the many reasons why.
Similarly, I only know of a single Fallen who's actually been kicked back to the Maelstrom permanently (amusingly this is also Legion), and even that one might not be permanent...
I believe a fair few got perma-splatted at the first event with the enthusiastic "kill everything with a soul symbol!" policy and a few jammy gits have repeatedly and persistantly managed to cling to survival by the very tips of their fingernails wondering themselves how they're still alive.
Tough little theugic bastards, and that's precisely why it's so much fun fighting them Smile
Aestar

I only shrivel in sunlight when it's hardcore argh-I'm-melting oh-god-the-snazz-and-sweat-in-my-eyes ow-death-ow middle of july/august roasting time. At such times I wear a mask and ridiculously heavy plate armour, like a sensible person *cough*.

I've taken to as-good-as-shrivelling in sunlight at recent events, on account of the fact that if I'm corporeal in the game world and sunlight falls directly upon me then I'm visible and therefore pretty much guaranteed to have approximately 35 seconds left to live (the five seconds being the time it takes for a hord of faithful to run over and hack me down!). As such, Aestar enjoys the darker hours just as much as any other heavy-makeup-and-kit character - but perhaps for slightly different reasons.

By the way, if people are serious about the idea of running an eidolon event in a maelstrom bubble, it might be quite interesting to do so. You lose out on having mortals around, but it's not like being unable to take any form of offensive action in the maelstrom detracts from, y'know, being unable to take any form of offensive action at a player event as normal. If anything, it just means you don't *need* an excuse.

I'd love to have a player event in a Maelstrom Bubble. As the lady says, it's the perfect venue for player events, and the fallen would be allowed to play all day, which from the sound of it, would be a cool new thing for most of them Smile

I'm off to the PD boards proper to see if I can garner interest.
