Declaring yourself Fallen, Loyal or Native...

Well, since a touchy subject of what IC knowledge you should post on OC boards has come up recently on rule7 (i.e theoretically nothing, but LARPers cannot contain their froth)

Most people here have openly admitted what flavour of Eidolon their characters are (and whom they're Chosen of, if appropriate). In many cases, this have been "proved" in play to each other through our actions.

If it's not an obvious option, feel free to declare yourself whatever the hell you want on these boards, if someone assumes you're loyal just 'cus you said so on an OC board (and in fact are a shonktastic Fallen), then it's they're fault for using OC knowledge IC. Very Happy Twisted Evil

but doesn't that stink al;ittle of cheating and metagaming? i would prefer to just say foip, or say well i play a character that does A B C and let the person make conclusoins as they would IC
Justice

lol

To be honest its all about your play technique, for instance as justice i know most peoples alligence. But as Will i know everyones alligence but i dont use it...

Its about choice... You choose to play the game correctly and according to the rules or you dont...

I like to think when you RP that you have two distinct seperated characters IC Character and OC you... also called mental illness Smile its the way i play anyway Smile IC you have your knowledge and OC you have your knowledge.

Metagaming is very annoying for many - it goes back to another post on disguise i wrote about.. OC you know what i look like and IC you have a vague idea because i can change my form if i want too. I think what makes a great roleplayer is a person who can make the choice and differenciate IC an OC and luckily enough i have had some very good teachers... ( Nick, Tom and Theresa) It has been virtually drummed into me Smile

In general the eidolons fall into my great roleplayers catagory however the mortals on the other hand... well that remains to be seen... I dont see it as an issue here to be honest...

Yes, it is, however I personally consider it *counter-metagaming*, since it's OC knowledge on an OC forum “good roleplayers” shouldn't use the knowledge anyway (and hence aren't effected by it), whereas it means metagamers who use what someone posted OC get bitten on the arse by it.

Of course, it isn't as simple as “good roleplayers” vs “bad metagamers” because the human memory is rarely perfect, and certainly I often find it far easier remembering a fact than the source of that information. For that reason when I'm uncertain about whether I know a certain fact IC or not, I always air on the side of caution and assume ignorance.

In an ideal situation, to avoid any IC/OC bleed of information, the best idea would be to never talk about anything that happened at events out of character. (“The first rule of Maelstrom is that you don't talk about Maelstrom...") Of course, I like Maelstrom far to much to stop talking about it, and find post event froth an enjoyable part of LARP.

However as Jason (Pinkcap) pointed out a little while back it is also you're responsibility as a player not to post IC facts and then force them to separate it out as IC/OC information. Even posting your name and affiliation could be classed as posting FOIP knowledge OC.
So I shouldn't be upset about people using stuff I've posted OC in-character, by posting something on an OC board I am in some sense allowing it to become “common knowledge” . Hence I generally make a point of avoiding posting too much about anything not relating to my character (sometimes I slip up), and if I want to keep something secret IC, I make a point of not telling people OC.

Also, whilst you might not openly state what alliance you are, people can often make a pretty informed guess from what you post, even if they're not deliberately trying to work it out (most conclusions tend to happen by themselves...), hence similar discretion is needed with what you put in your posts if you want to keep it subtle.

As for the OC deception, it's a bit dodgy, but can be a nice counter to metagaming. I know that PD has deliberately provided some individuals with “false” OC documentation after people started using OC downtime report printouts as “IC evidence” at a trial.

Whee, this is fun!
